Next visit in Birmingham Alabama do stop in at the Whistle Stop-The Irondale Café.  Visited by people the world over the food remains just as “down home and delicious” as their website states. http://www.whistlestopcafe.com .  The café was made famous by Birmingham author, Fanny Flag in her bestselling novel and the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes.”   Directly in front of the café freight trains still make their way down the tracks adding to the nostalgia of the already wonderful dining experience.
Once there the most difficult decisions will have to be made about food choices.  They have it all!  And it’s all cooked southern style.  The vegetables are simply the best in town.  Save some room for their unbelievable homemade pies and peach cobbler.  Top it off with the delicious vanilla ice cream.  When you pay your check on Wednesdays, during summer, step out the door and right into the Farmer’s Market complete with, you guessed it, “fresh local grown, green tomatoes and other vegetables!”

Don’t wait another day to visit this historic landmark for the best “down home and delicious” lunch in Birmingham!  And, the friendly service cannot be beat. See website for map and directions.  http://www.irondalecafe.com/contact.
